Little Women Dolls through the Years

DollsLinks  |  Books & Videos

The Little Women Dolls by Madame Alexander are fashioned from the book, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888).  Madame Alexander gained the rights to make the dolls in 1933.  These dolls have been a major part of the Alexander Doll Company and have been produced all but a few years.

The Little Women dolls have been made in various sizes, but the only sets that I own are the little ones.

The 1949 movie Little Women was released starring Elizabeth Taylor as Amy, Margaret O'Brien as Beth, Janet Leigh as Meg, Mary Astor as Marme, June Allyson as Jo, and Peter Lawford as Laurie.

I think the "Cissette" face (Marmee doll) on an 8" doll is not in proportion.

During the early years of the 8" Little Women Sets, the costumes changed yearly and it was hard to complete a set within a given year.
