THE WORLD SERIES

The World Series began in 1903 when the owners of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Boston Red Sox agreed to a best of nine postseason playoff for the "world championship". The Red Sox won in eight games. In 1904, the series was interrupted because the New York Giants refused the Boston Red Sox challenge for the World Series meeting. This was the lone interruption in the history of the fall classic.

Of course the Yankees have played a major part in World Series History, winning 25 World Championships out of the 36 World Series in which they have participated.
